Birthday

I don't have any real number associations with ages twenty-two and above.

I guess it's sort of the point things stop mattering so much. Especially since no one believes I'm past (or near) twenty in the first place, and by the time I'm actually old we'll either have cloning down or we'll all be dead.

The weather's warmed up again. It used to always be a big blizzard around now.

I want to try making jello shots sometime.

Mom's going to get rats, which is cool.

RATS

names? would pikachu be too obvious

(happy birthday [except i feel too creepy i don't even know you])

[identity profile] ember-reignited.livejournal.com 2009-12-16 02:04 am (UTC)(link)
...I named mine Atta and Cate.

Yeah.

[identity profile] farla.livejournal.com 2009-12-16 02:26 am (UTC)(link)
They may possibly come with names. (Because no one around here sells them, so we're getting them from a rescue.)

([Be generally happy for people who have birthdays!])

Happy birthday! Jello shots sound fun.

I love small animals as pets. Rats are fun-- their tails are almost like an extra limb, and they curl them around your arm when you hold them.

Rats are awesome indeed, and they're cleaner than mice; we had four of them when I was younger. My sister and I used to walk through the house while they were crawling on our head and shoulders, and put them in our shoes by the door. Always gave visitors a helluva a shock, hehe.

Mine was the only one to survive until we moved, actually, at which point we had to give her away. Juliet died giving birth. Romeo died of a broken heart soon after (or just a plain ol' heart attack, but that's not nearly as amusing). Cleopatra just ... died one day. And got eaten. By Ratbag. My little cannibal survivalist.

Good times.

And happy birthday, Farla. XD;

[identity profile] farla.livejournal.com 2009-12-16 02:55 am (UTC)(link)
Everything is cleaner than mice. (THEY GO INTO THE TUBES TO PEE WHY MICE WHY) And the hamsters the rats will be replacing were also scary little cannibals.

And thanks!

"scary little cannibals"

this is exactly why no one will ever be able to convince me to get a hamster

in my experience things that like to eat each other rarely make good pets

[identity profile] farla.livejournal.com 2009-12-16 03:11 am (UTC)(link)
In fairness it probably died first, and only then got its face chewed off.

Uh.

...If you only get one it can't eat anyone else?

(Anonymous) 2009-12-16 03:39 am (UTC)(link)
but then it's not happy! :(

I lolled.

Also have birthday, and if you can, MAKE JELLO SHOTS THEY ARE AWESOME. There are a bunch of really cool recipes online you can try out. I would personally reccomend orange jello with peach Schnapps and orange juice (they had the best success at my tupperware party).

I hope to become drunk without having to taste alcohol!

I've had basically every small rodent except rats. Mostly, they were full of bitey hate. I look forward to the promise of rodents that do other things.

I hope to become drunk without having to taste alcohol!

Isn't that always the objective?

You had bitey hamsters, really? Ours nipped a little bit when we first got them, but were the sweetest little things after that. Dwarf hamsters are bitier than bigger ones, and males more than females (apparently; I've only ever had females). Hamsters have by far been my favorite small animal.

Our guinea pigs never bit either (though they aren't very bright and have a tendency to mistake fingers for food if you put them too close, so there are lots of "test nibbles" but no real bites), but they are smelly and tons of work. Not a fan.

[identity profile] farla.livejournal.com 2009-12-16 03:07 am (UTC)(link)
They're mostly school hamsters/gerbils/mice I get back to resocialize, so the biting is understandable. My regular golden hamster was pretty even-tempered because he was merely a poorly socialized lab hamster. My teddy bear hamster was from Petco, and therefore chewed through my fingers when I got her and continued to be a bitey monster until she died.

Had a guinea pig once. They are high strung little chewing machines, but yes, they're more scratchy than bitey.

[identity profile] ember-reignited.livejournal.com 2009-12-16 03:20 am (UTC)(link)
I love guinea pigs, and possibly prefer to them to rats as pets. Sure, they're daft little creatures, but they're so cuddly! Also they make the cutest happy noises of any animal ever.

Also: Ooh, I'm a "little punk" now. This one is feisty!

[identity profile] razorleaf.livejournal.com 2009-12-16 05:13 am (UTC)(link)

And a lackey, don't forget lackey!

[identity profile] actonthat.livejournal.com 2009-12-16 11:41 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm a lackey like eight times over in this thread. How does that work? Do I need to be leader again that many times to be back on top?

[identity profile] farla.livejournal.com 2009-12-17 12:52 am (UTC)(link)
You need to review everyone for eight months.

Look, I don't make the rules. I'm just saying you'll never escape being my lackey unless you go do exactly what I tell you for poorly explained reasons. Without question.

[identity profile] kddreams.livejournal.com 2009-12-17 02:08 am (UTC)(link)
"I hope to become drunk without having to taste alcohol!"

I don't think so. I've tried many Jell-O shots made by various people, and they all taste like alcohol. It's better to just get drunk with the least number of drinks necessary, so go for high alcohol content.

[identity profile] ember-reignited.livejournal.com 2009-12-16 02:05 am (UTC)(link)
Happy birthday!

Also: RATS RATS RATS RATS RATS!

I wish I were getting rats.

Happy Birthday, Farla!

Rats? Nice. :D Also, jello shots can be fun to make! :3

[identity profile] negrek.livejournal.com 2009-12-16 07:15 am (UTC)(link)
Happy birthday! And have fun playing with the rats.

[identity profile] purplekitte.livejournal.com 2009-12-16 01:02 pm (UTC)(link)
Congratulations for the birthday anyway! They're more hand-held than guinea pigs and require less frequent visits to the store for huge quantities of lettuce, I gather.

(Anonymous) 2009-12-16 06:06 pm (UTC)(link)
Happy birthday, Farla!

Good luck with your rats! I had mice before and had that same peeing-in-the-tube problem you mentioned somewhere above. Yeah, screw that.

How do your chickens fare in snowy weather? I've never really associated the two. (...then again I live in Texas, so I don't associate snow with anything.)

[identity profile] farla.livejournal.com 2009-12-17 01:13 am (UTC)(link)
They, uh, guilt us into letting them live on the porch.

See, we made them a run, and then we made them a roof to keep the snow off, but it was so cold at night and their house isn't that well protected from wind, see, and then it started snowing at night and their run collapsed! And we fixed it (we'd taken out the centerpiece, so it might have held otherwise) but it's just so drafty out, and what if it started snowing really heavily while we were out and...

They managed to walk over it to come in at night without seeming to mind, but I don't think they can actually spend too much time on it. I know their feet got really cold if they were out on wet ground, and they were badly chilled one time they were left out late like that. They're able to handle the temperature itself just fine, though. Probably, they could go out in snow, peck a bit, then come back to roost somewhere dry without a problem.
