Plotting

So, AOOO Homestuck fic is nearing 2000, otherwise known as the point at which you lose the ability to view all works in a category. I need to get on the whole reviewing thing, don't I?

I'm almost done with Mockingjay, finally. Just another five chapters and the summation, which is looking like it's going to just be I HATE THIS BOOK written over and over until I find out if there's a character limit. Hate aside, it was fun to do and I'm wondering if I should do another book - preferably, one that isn't so intensive.

October, I think, will be dedicated fic-reviewing month. Let no one say I don't have the holiday spirit.

I thought the point was 1000? I haven't been able to go back past 1000 stories, at any rate. Though searching by character or pairing can let me see works older than that.

If you reverse the dates to let you see the oldest first, you'll get the other thousand. Past that point, yeah, you have to start doing individual searches, which makes it pretty hard if you're just trying to read through everything.

Ah! Clever!

Anyway, looking forward to October. And to you finding out how Mockingjay ends. ^_^

Not clever enough. I think I'm going to have to go save links now before things go over. I've already collected all the carapace fic, but if I want to ever review the rest I probably need to act now.

...and fuck, you mean it manages to get even worse?

Well... let's just say there's one thing that you don't seem to be anticipating at all and that I look forward to seeing your reaction to. ^_^

Also there's the epilogue. I know people who loved the books who thought the epilogue was kind of stomach-churningly sexist. But from what you've written, I'm not sure why they were surprised by that...

Well, most of what makes the book tolerable is probably the reading without thinking part/expecting any issues to end up being addressed, but an epilogue is the official end and sort of invites more thought. Like the DH epilogue and backlash. It's not really like it was some huge departure from the rest of the series, after all.

Could I suggest you review 'The Book Thief' by Markus Zusak? A lot of the stuff you've criticized in the Hunger Games I've noticed as well, but I can't for the life of me pick out huge flaws in 'The Book Thief'. It would be interesting to see. :D

That's a Nazi one, isn't it? I'd sort of like to avoid those, I read a lot of Holocaust literature when I was younger. Plus factchecking anything would lead to depression.

It's more about the people in Germany who were passive to the party. But that's okay if you don't want to.

What do you think about all the religious people who seem to be popping up over on the Mockingjay blog?

[identity profile] farla.livejournal.com 2011-09-10 04:04 pm (UTC)(link)
Eh, it's not that many, especially considering most people you'll meet are religious.

You are probably a much better person than I am in this regard, but if someone tells me to stop using the lord's name in vain I suddenly get urges to start using epithets like, "Man, that escape was tighter than the Virgin Mary's ass" or "By the flaming scrotum of Muhammad!".

I use them because of the magic of culture, and I have to admit the words are empty to me in a way they aren't to some people. And those people are allowed to be bothered by it. It'd be one thing if they were being a jerk about it, but it was a reasonable thing to say.
