This is awesome. Why is everything anon, though?

[identity profile] farla.livejournal.com 2011-12-09 01:17 am (UTC)(link)
It's an anon meme. It's intended to have everyone talking honestly and equally. That kind of breaks down once you start talking about specific people, though, and that particular meme isn't particularly devoted to the idea in the first place.

[identity profile] actonthat.livejournal.com 2011-12-09 01:19 am (UTC)(link)
Oh, well, I fail then. Whatevs. It's not a particularly intelligent or anonymous threadline anyway.

[identity profile] farla.livejournal.com 2011-12-09 01:20 am (UTC)(link)
It's a good thing you're not in the fandom, I'm pretty sure the one bitching about my critique failings is a particular BNF.

[identity profile] actonthat.livejournal.com 2011-12-09 01:37 am (UTC)(link)
That only makes it more fun!

[identity profile] ember-reignited.livejournal.com 2011-12-09 02:27 am (UTC)(link)
Really? Who do you think it is?

[identity profile] farla.livejournal.com 2011-12-09 02:37 am (UTC)(link)
Someone popped up about the Hemostuck review on one of the last complaint threads who sounded like they were talking from the POV of the author, and part of what they objected to was how disorganized my review was and how it was bad to review as I went.

And now we have someone making that exact same complaint (and when that's one of very few stories to get such a comment). And they definitely sound like someone reasonably used to fandom arguments and critique, but also very used to being able to tell someone exactly what the appropriate way of doing so is.

[identity profile] ember-reignited.livejournal.com 2011-12-09 03:29 am (UTC)(link)
I figured as much, but there are two authors of Hemostuck. Shelby (wearesexy) and Taz (urbananchorite), I think. IME, Shelby seems more like the type to be this kind of wanky. I like Taz, as much as I dislike Hemostuck, so I would be disappointed if it were her.

[identity profile] farla.livejournal.com 2011-12-09 03:34 am (UTC)(link)
I know, but I can't tell the difference between them because I don't pay attention. All I know is it's almost certainly related to Hemostuck because the Pretty Little Windstorm is about the only review someone would be acting like this over. It might not be either of them but just someone in their circle, even.

[identity profile] ember-reignited.livejournal.com 2011-12-11 01:12 am (UTC)(link)
...well I was wrong anyway. The "Shelby" that's always working with urbananchorite is the artist duedlyfirearms, not her coauthor for Hemostuck, wecansexy, who is the person I can't help but side-eye after their comments on Kanaya/Eridan and Eridan in general. God how do people keep all of these BNFs straight? The only one I ever really bothered to follow was Taz.

[identity profile] farla.livejournal.com 2011-12-11 03:28 am (UTC)(link)
I've found that everyone important in fandom seems to have terrible opinions I hate, so ignorance has been pretty blissful. Are the people who say dumb things on tumblr the same as those writing stories? Apparently, but as long as I can't match them up it can't annoy me.

[identity profile] ember-reignited.livejournal.com 2011-12-09 02:31 am (UTC)(link)
It's not me, but I can't say I'm surprised someone is making that argument. I half expected to get hit with it on tumblr when I said that by doing that you were respecting their space.

[identity profile] farla.livejournal.com 2011-12-09 02:34 am (UTC)(link)
But normally it's just one person saying "you're talking behind their back AND THAT'S WRONG" and then later "you're talking to authors who don't want to hear your meanness AND THAT'S WRONG" from someone else.

I have never seen someone actually say both at the same time.

all criticism must be written on paper, tied to the legs of carrier pigeons and flown to their houses

or, in your case, I suppose you could substitute chickens that walk to their houses instead

[identity profile] farla.livejournal.com 2011-12-09 03:53 am (UTC)(link)
The chickens would eat that stuff before they got three inches...which probably means it's the ideal method of sending criticism for fandom.

People could collect chickens like kudos and be none the wiser of any negativity!
