Quick Question

Of the various pokemon forums, which do you think is the least intelligent? The sort who post teams of mewtwo, lugia, suicune, latias and tyranitar, then crow about how powerful they are? The sort who write OT stories about people that happen to have the same name? The sort who have RPG characters who have the above team, plus psychic abilities from Team Rocket experiments and a new pokemon who's stronger than all the legendaries combined? Where would you say is the worst?

Out of the major ones, I'd say it's either SPPf or PC. I can't quite decide. They can be equally horrific. PFU can get that way too as of fanfiction at least, though it's not nearly as bad due to lack of activity. (If you need links, I can give them to you. God bless you if your brain doesn't implode on either of the first two, especially SPPf.)

Of course, that's not including all the little Proboards/InvisionFree forums where the real idiots hang out. Googling for a single decent board hosted by either can be quite painful.

SPPf won the coin toss, so I'll go register there.

Well, my dear, I wish you luck. (You're not a masochist, are you? XD)

Don't think so. I seek out the stupid, but it's for purposes of mockery. Or, in the case of Reality, cannon fodder.

Ah. In that case, good luck and don't let your brain wander away from you around there. It can get lost in an endless abyss of incoherence and general stupidity. (I've seen proof.)

By the way, are you going by Farla on there, or have you chosen a different screen name (possibly to avoid any kiddie who might hate you for reviewing their badfic)? I'd like to read your posts sometime.

Since I'm asking for characters, I can't really go by a false name. If I'm asking permission, I should be the one asking. Plus I don't really want to use up my few pseudonyms on something that'll fall apart pretty fast (in five seconds, if someone asks to see the story where their characters are going).

The potential response is an issue, but really no good way around it. Anyway, it's strange, but much of the online forum hatred seems concentrated in people I've never encountered. Either those I've reviewed are too traumatized to mention it again, or else they're smarter about where they declare me the firstmost evil of humanity. (The main thing I'm worried about is people wrongly assuming I intend to use the characters for pure fanfic mockery...I do want those sues and twinks. They make up the majority of characters, so Reality should have a majority of them.)

Actually...

I find the forums who post the teams to be least annoying because, well, they may have hope. The RPG people...gosh, they need to get reality checks once in a while.

But what's the worst, I find, is those who write OT stories about WONDERFUL people and have people PRAISE THEM about how great those OCs are. These I cannot stomach.

By the way, I reviewed your "Hatred." It's very cleverly done, and though it's not what I expected, it is quite a charming piece.

Thanks!

I have one more catagory to add:
The ones that create character SIMPLY to vertical bop their desired character in the series
In any fandom.. that has ALWAYS bothered me...

Along with the said ultra powerful RPG characters.

I'm not bothered by self inserts... as long as they're 'real' self inserts as in, they actually insert their own personal quirks, fears, that sort of thing. If there were more 'real' self-inserts, there'd be less mary sues (because.. they would, you know, make mistakes! have fears and inhibitions, normal, natural human emotions.. )

.,... and I happen to like Tyranitar.. (but shuckle is king)

I like tyranitar too, but you have to admit, it's pretty overused.

Shipping.

"Oh, in episode 354, Gary had bedroom eyes for 5 cel frames! That must mean he wants buttsecks with Ash!"

I despise the ones where you can write your character into a story. RPGs are okay, since you can avoid them and let the idiots have their fun... the lists are also alright, since again, you can avoid them like they're the plauge if you want. But honestly, I think it's the middle one, where it's hard to avoid the stories... ::shakes head::

I think I'll go with the RP characters, simply because I have met some people who realize that they are incapable of writing a fanfic of any quality but nevertheless RP with gusto. Not only do their characters often burn the eyes, but their spelling and punctuation could use serious help as well. Fortunately, the thing about really bad RP's is that you don't have to join them...

I can't really say what places are worst for stupidity; generally, I think it's the largest forums, but small forums can have an equally bad idiot population.

The worst forums are the ones where reviewers think they know what they're doing but are actually idiots. Most prominently, PC.

(Anonymous) 2005-06-04 03:11 am (UTC)(link)
I would say that, too, except that I would feel like an incredible hypocrite. XD

Well, I don't go to many forums, but from my experience with forums, the least intelligent ones are the ones where people pretend they know what they're talking about and say that they love whatever the topic is, when really, they are asking the dumbest questions. The arrogance and stupidity of people!
