So hello again.
I went on a school trip for about fifteen hours, to the beach. It was very enjoyable. The ride took several hours, and then we went to the beach. I collected several pounds of interesting rocks and some shells for my snail (her water's too soft and leeches calcium out of her own shell). I found the skull of what looked like a dolphin, two chucks of spine which might have been to that dolphin, part of a fishfin, and the head of a ray. Because there was no way I would go in the water. I tried. My ankles burned. I've walked barefoot on frosted grass, and that wasn't as bad as the water. Some braver (and fatter) souls went swimming.
One of the boys went into the water for a few minutes and ended up hypothermic. He had to go to the hospital.
Afterward, we went to go wander around the town and buy souvenirs. I don't go for impulse buys and definitely not overpriced crap. The really creepy thing about the town was that all the stores were the same. There was this one weird glass thing I'd never seen anywhere before, and every single store selling items had it . There were ice cream shops and all only on the same street. The creepiest thing was these two candy stores. They were on opposite sides of the street. They were both offering a sale on the same candy, with the same terms. And they were both using the exact same printed-up sheets to do so. It's as if store owner one said to himself, 'I need to have a sale so that people will shop here and not at the other store.' And then he printed up a copy of his sale and gave it to the other owner. I assume they're both owned by the same person because my brain shuts down trying to consider the alternative, but why would anyone have two shops right next to each other? The town was just weird.
There were some beat-up docks that I climbed down to explore. The water is filthy. It looks pretty and blue from an angle, but looking down, it's a murky green. The oceans everywhere are a huge mess, and it's worst at the coast. Later we went to a restaurant. They sold fish dishes mainly. I ate a hamburger. You're not supposed to eat any fish now because the water's polluted, and most of the staple fishes like cod and salmon are functionally extinct. No one talks about this because if we stopped buying fish than it'd hurt the economy.
Humans suck, by the way.
We went back to the bus slowly. At first there were only a few of us. There was one boy there and he said some guy had checked him out and then hit on him in the bathroom. And he said the gay guys were all watching him. This amused the rest of us greatly. Then he said he had been trying to show he was taken and interested in girls by walking around staring at guys while holding the hand of one of the other girls. He acted it out for our amusement. First he grabbed her hand. Then he stared very intently at the imaginary guys. More intently. And then he suddenly turned and pretended to make out with the girl. I told him that he was just asking to get hit on by doing that and pointed out how heavily in denial he was if he was staring at guys and then making out with a girl. I managed to convince him and he then spent about five minutes checking out the boys with his minibinoculars from the bus and talking about how hot they were. Then another student tried to come on and he announced that he had come out. The guy ran off. After he got bored, he wandered off swishily, giving come-hither looks to the other kids and scaring them. A good time was had by all (except the other male students).
I came home, stayed up all night and watched anime. Went up to go to bed, saw my larger beta was acting funny, and switched everything around so that he's in a little tank again. The heater will just not keep the large tank warm enough. He's much more active and built a bubble nest, but his head is looking worse. So I ended up going to sleep about an hour later than I intended. I was up for about twenty-one hours, which is especially bad considering I tend not to get enough sleep to start with.
Woke up today around twelve with a horrible caffeine headache. I get those whenever I drink too much coffee. Anything, no matter how little, over a half cup sets it off. I've even gotten them just from iced tea. I hate this because I really like drinking coffee. I was on the computer for an hour or so, gave up, and went back to sleep.
