Sort of in between the two, really. Generally one half of a pairing would do something kind of fucked up, but not really that much worse than the baseline level of fucked-up-ness for most of the relationships in the show. And you know it would just be the end of the world.
To the extent that I got involved at all, I generally tried to stay out of the way, over in the corner with the crackshippers. Particularly the "hey let's pair Zuko's hot mess of a sister with every other girl on the show!" variety of crackshippers. Fun times.
