Okay. Ages ago, I was posting about Hurricane Katrina again, and some weirdo anon going by Ryu the Weredragon showed up right after Warlorn-chan to make some vague, semi-coherent insult about how pathetic I was. Because I was either being too conspiracy-theorist or not enough, possibly both at the same time.
Well. Months and months and months pass, and today, I get a review on PR by one Ryu the Weredragon (on Chapter Two, I might add):
This story is possibly the worst piece of crap ever to be considered literature. The concept stinks to high heaven, there are errors storylinewise (like your baseless claim, even at the time, that there was no dark legendary), your theories about why the Legendaries wouldn't have dealt with this sooner, and your treatement of humankind.
Do the world a favor. Stop writing.
(Amusingly, the next review I get for the story is a happy reader begging for an update.)
So. Random person whose has already shown up unannounced to insult me for no discernible reason. I brushed off the general bit about the story being horrible, but found the legendary bit so bizarre it demanded a reply, so I started off by asking if they were the same person as had showed up here, and then pointed out that there was no dark type legendary at the time and, for that matter, the story addresses this as a discrepancy. I then thank them for their incredibly useful review and promise to give it as much consideration as it deserves.
I get a PM back, a reminder that I need to get around to turning those off. (I don't want to turn them off in the middle of these things, but by the time they're over I forget about it.)
lj? No, sorry. I avoid those like the plague. You must be thinking of some other person. This name isn't the most original one, after all.
I'm not saying that your an idiot for not knowing Darkrai would come into existance. I'm saying that anybody could see that there WOULD be a darkness legendary, since every other type was getting one. It's not being highly intellegent or anything. It's recognizing a pattern. Something your taught in Elementary School.
Of course, looking at your work, I wonder if you've even gotten an education of that low level.
There really needs to be some updated version of Godwin's law about automatically losing any argument after uttering any version of the phrase "your stupid".
But his "it can't have been meee!" bit is ironclad, and I say as much before going on to discuss the dark legendary blather.
So the anon going by this exact handle who appeared on a lj post shortly after Alex Warlorn and expressed similarly random bitching at me out of the blue was someone completely different. Cool. Like you said, it's a common handle. So many people have long pennames that are exactly identical, lack lj accounts, bother me, and follow Warlorn around like a puppy.
As to obvious? Uh, no. Maybe once you yourself graduate from elementary school and master such things as "using apostrophes", you'll understand the concept of "timeline".
1) This was written in the GSC era. We were not getting new elements of pokegods at the time. Of the legendaries we got, they were all reworkings of the RBY generation types. GSC gave us a second fire/flying legendary. This is not exactly groundbreaking. It does not exactly suggest creators interested in creating a legendary of each type. The closest they came to new was a water-type in place of ice-type legendary.
2) The story was not speculative. Even if it was obvious there would be a dark legendary, we weren't creating new pokemon in general. All noncanon pokemon in PR are human created.
3) Not only does the story reference the issue of a dark pokegod and imply there should be one, but I wrote another story centering around the dark pokegod with an explanation for why in the GSC era it wasn't around. For that matter, a pokemon of the same design is included in PR, although as a sidenote. In other words, despite there not being, at the time, any obvious pattern, despite this coming well before the third and fourth generations, I actually did predict the existence of a dark type legendary.
4) Why aren't you bitching about the lack of new pokemon? I mean, the dark legendary is, you must admit, inane, while if you're speaking of patterns, the fact they introduce new pokemon in each generation is pretty obvious. Surely the lack of any new pokemon is a much greater sin that the lack of a dark type legendary.
Please, there are so many other things you could bitch about that might manage to sound plausible for an entire five seconds. I hate to see such potential wasted.
And lo, he listens (er, halfway). I get back a reply that, at least, manages to move on to new and productive fields of bitching that are dimly plausible for whole seconds.
Okay, first and foremost, I do NOT follow Alex. Yes, he's wrote a few chapters for one of my stories, but after the chapter I post next week, that's IT, and it was finished nearly a year ago (I just had to wait for it to be dramatically appropriate for that chapter to occur.) I DESPISE Alex and all he stands for.
Yes, he told me about this story. YEARS ago. I thought nothing could be as bad as what he described. I was almost right. The story is WORSE than he described.
You bastardize the relationship between Pokemon and humans, and then you go around touting your story like it's like how things REALLY are, when it's NOT.
Didn't you get what Pikachu said? Ash isn't his 'master' he's his 'friend'.
I am COMPLETELY unbiased in this - and if I was, I'd be liking the story just because Alex hates it, but no. It's a horrible story, totally inaccurate, terrible plot, characters, and written by a writer who couldn't be any more bitchier if she TRIED!
The concept stinks to high heaven and COMPLETELY ignores what both the games and anime have said about the relationship between human and Pokemon, even from the POKEMON's point of view (see Isle of Giant Pokemon, and the first two movies).
I could go into some other things, but they're heresay.
I'll just REPEAT that this story makes Dark Kefkian's A Sorcerer, A Demon and Chaos Emeralds (once thought of as the worst "fanfiction" ever created) look like a work of ART. JUST like Dark Kefkian, you bastardize the world you're writing about. And then you go off and try to make Eon look like some kind of hero by "showing" that if Eon was dead, that all Pokemon would be destroyed.
While the contrary is true. It's PAINFULLY obvious that if Eon had commited suicide, the war would never have begun in the FIRST place.
Yes, some humans are evil and treat Pokemon like Slaves (Silver/Kamon/Black/whatever you call him), most others are the direct opposite, however (Ash/Red, Gold/Hiro/Kenta/Yoshi/Jimmy, Misty, Lance, Richie/Hiroshi, and many MANY other characters).
Your story is awful, Out of Character, and just plain badly written.
You obviously didn't think while writing.
I just feel like mentioning that Ryu-chan (obviously related to Yami Ryu-chan! Don't you see the resemblance?) cowrites a lot, so you'd think that of all things he'd at least manage to get the WRITTEN BY TWO PEOPLE, WHO ARE NOT THE SAME bit about the story. But as karmic payback for getting credit for the odd chapters, I also get most of the insane hate.
I'm not sure if I should keep going the PM thing, or direct him to the forums. My innate desire for watching this hilariously explode is matched by my innate desire to keep fanfic stuff at least semi-calm.
Ryu-chan seems to be taking up Warlorn-chan's mantle (more legible, but also more insane bitchy...perhaps they're evolving?) so perhaps I should alienate him quickly in the hopes he'll move on to other, more productive venues, like walking into walls.
