Looks like it's a mash-up of game and anime canons — and possibly also the radio drama, since I think I see a reference to Amber. I find it a bit strange that he ever told anyone that part of the story, but intriguing. I wonder who was talking about her, and why they speak in bold.
It seems like what the trainers are doing is somehow more important than a mere sport. Which might go some ways to explaining why they're doing it at all, since the sporting aspect of it seems completely unimportant to them. I just wonder if the import behind it is merely symbolic or actually substantial. I guess we'll find out.
The way they preserved the mansion is surreal, but I think I see what's going on there. It's important, but the most important thing is that it was destroyed.
