farlaSo it turns out if I slack off for a couple days, I start getting bitchy replies again, then those go away as I review more stories. I think this is final confirmation of my theory. (I'm around 40,000 words now.)
Anyway, the crazy award goes to Chocolate Berry:
Also, since I really do think you have a good eye, I would like you to be my beta reader. You don't have to, of course, but if you don't, then please stop commenting on my stories about the mistakes
Yeah.
The especially annoying thing is, she didn't get a review that was just "I can't deal with all these errors, get a beta reader", which I do give to some stories. The sum total of my advice for that story was:
"Dialogue is written as "Hello," he said or "Hello!" he said, never "Hello." He said or "Hello." he said. The only exception to this is if the next sentence doesn't contain a speech verb, in which case it's written as "Hello." He grinned, never "Hello," he grinned.
Anyway, this is yet another of those stories that just seems like banter between OCs. They're also emoting too much - you don't absolutely need to think of some action for them to take with each and every sentence, sometimes you can just say he/she said."
I'm starting to get the impression people mistake "beta reader" for "person who goes through my fic and changes all the stuff I'm too lazy to correct or pay attention to".
(Then I got a review a little while later for Butterfly Wings, which read only "woah, you said that I used too much he/she said. Have you read your story?")
But the worst part? Yet again, she's a beta reader. "Also, I don't mind if I don't like the pairing, since there's barley any I truly hate."
Perhaps my January suffering will come in the form of setting up my own beta reading profile.
