Starting to post Ice over on Fanlib now, and I find the response I'm getting interesting. Although the story's only description is that it's about an inhuman child, so far the reviews persist in treating her as an abused and mentally unbalanced but human girl.

I'm not quite sure if that's a sign of a problem with the story or not. She is meant to be close enough to human that she can just manage to pass, and a lot of her survival hinges on people insisting on interacting with her as if she's human even as it becomes evident she's not. She's supposed to be right on the edge where her motivations aren't actually human, but can be interpreted as such. On the other hand, the story takes place inside her head where the disconnect is more obvious so the readers sharing this delusion is possibly an issue. On the other, other hand, I'm not entirely sure it's a writing issue as opposed to a people-seeing-what-they-want issue.

Also, do you know what's awesome? Youtube videogame playthroughs. Through an extremely circuitous route Resident Evil 4 gave me the idea/inspiration for a chapter, as well as an unrelated but also cool idea based on incorporating an in-universe justification for a game over for failing to protect another character when the main character remained unharmed. Also, really bad nightmares, but they had some cool concepts so I think they were an overall plus.
