There are at least 190 carapace fics.

That's more than there were when I first decided to do this, even.

A good chunk are probably Path's or Lucky_spike's, at least, but there's also probably two or three pages of solid Coz.

(I would be happier about there being so much if it wasn't for that distinct dip in quality we got with this quantity.)

There also seem to be some new PS/SS writers? Maybe it's just ports from tumblr?

God, why do there have to be so many of them?

It really is terrible interesting. It's sort of the perfect case of seeing what appeals to people. No one was shipping it until it was brought up, which shows that it's a completely random crack ship, and then everyone was. And with some of them you can actually see Snowman just fade out of their stories over time as they replace her with PS.

Obviously the fact it's slash is a huge draw. I wonder if part of it's also the OOCness. I complained at the start that no one ever seemed to sit down and try to explain how the two of them ended up together, but the fic has headed in the other direction. Eventually you end at Mobsterswitch or Stabdads, where it's altering the characters and then throwing them into a crackship, so there's even less holding people back from writing what everyone always wanted: two hot guys with dark pasts and inner demons soulbonding through buttsex.

I wish fandom was even bigger, because if there were more hetshippers I could get more of an idea of if people want this in general with Slick or if there's something about Snowman/Slick that doesn't work for this. ("Canon" is obviously not an impediment when we have stories arguing PS is a better kismesis than Snowman in addition to being the perfect everything else.)

I think Snowman/Slick is probably too much like a kismesis to fit their idea of a kismesis.

Maybe! But some of these authors usually deal with that by ignoring what's actually in the comic so hard they don't even realize they're not writing to canon.

I don't think any of them would have any qualms about rewriting that relationship to fit what they want it to be. In fact a lot of them are currently butchering that relationship so it'll fit what they want, it's just what they want isn't Snowman/Slick in the first place.
