Taking stock
Aug. 10th, 2007 04:38 pmSo I'm up to two hundred now, for one thing.
Anyway, I find my story stats interesting.
For one thing, Lucki is my longest story, with almost ten thousand words more than my second longest. So there is something to be said for Serebii's mindless filler levels. (I'm not sure if it'll remain there long, though - Pokemon Revolution is ten thousand words behind, just over a third of the way through, and the chapters get long as it progresses. But then, I didn't write half of that, so I can't be sure what the final numbers would come to. And Ice is under a ten thousand behind and has a similar word-per-chapter average, so assuming I ever update, that'll also overtake it.)
Review numbers are pretty random - I once tried to work out why some stories got a lot and others fewer, and aside from a couple things not related to the actual story (asking reviewers a question jacks it way up) I never got anywhere. I think popular pokemon have something to do with it, and anything seemingly controversal that people completely agree with. Shocking.
Hits is less random but not very useful - the more chapters, the more hits a single story will get per reader, and in addition, the more likely a reader will reread some/all chapters. There are some interesting anomalies, but with the exception of really major ones (Lucki's final chapter has several times the number of hits as the chapters leading up to it, Unoriginality OT gets a ton of hits) it's hard to say if they mean anything, especially since FFN's hit counter is unreliable to start with.
C2s, Favs and Alerts are interesting too. Ice came in second for all of them until recently, when Pokemon Revolution's alerts went up again. (Pokemon Revolution, meanwhile, is fourth on both of the others) Oddly, every story that scores highly in one category is low on the others - Reality has twice as many alerts than the second highest, but is a lot lower in terms of favorites and a solid zero in the C2 category. This makes a degree of sense if you assume a number are just there to see their submitted character show up, or outright don't want to be seen with a self-insert on their favorites list. Then Unoriginality OT is on about as many favorites lists, but barely a third as many people have it on alerts as Reality. (Possibly the opposite is happening, where people want to be seen with an anti-badfic fic on their favorites list, but don't actually like it all that much?) And the top scoring one-shot is Hatred, with the majority of favoriters being militant AAM readers. No idea at all what to make of that.
There aren't really enough C2s for those to function as a good guide, but it's interesting that Absolution made its way into four. It's also interesting to see that only one is a multi-fandom one (with what seems like a moderate pokemon presence), while Ice is on three but two are multi-fandom.
It'll be interesting to see how stable this stays as I continue.
