I've watched so much CCS that I'm thinking in Japanese phrases.

It is not as awesome as it sounds. Especially because I do not remember what they mean.

(I finally finished it. Awesome, but the second/third seasons have a tragic lack of Yue. Dammit, Sakura! Stop being well-characterized and start summoning him every five seconds!)

Anyway, CCS is joy and goodness and light, although for some reason I really can't get behind Sakura/Syaoran and like Sakura/Yukito better, even though that involves breaking up a canon and awesome gay couple. (I understand the Naruto fandom's response to this is threesome!!!:D but dear god no.)

Hmm, I vaguely remember watching a few episodes of this when it was on TV and I was in middle school. I take it the sub is better than the dub?

Tomoyo ie "Madison", is actually Sakura's relative who is in love with her just as her mother was in love with Sakura's mother(Also, Tomoyo's mother loves Sakura), who married Sakura's father, her then teacher, when she was sixteen. Which is downright normal compared to Sakura's other fourth-grade classmate Rika who is in reciprocated love with their homeroom teacher, who gave her a wedding ring. Meanwhile Sakura and Li both crush madly on Yukito and compete for his attention, while Yukito hangs out with Sakura's brother constantly. Then Li's fiance AND COUSIN shows up and moves in with him. And then there's Sakura's brother who was in a relationship with yet another (this time female) teacher when he was in eighth grade. A teacher who then goes to work at Sakura's school and Sakura crushes madly on. Oh, and meanwhile the mirror card that spends its time looking like Sakura is crushing on Sakura's brother.

And it is all the cutest thing to ever exist.

(I tried to make a drawing of the relationships on the show once but it quickly surpassed a love dodecahedron into non-Euclidean geometry, and that attempt was only twenty episodes in.)

So there are some minor differences. Go watch it! (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rOTV9HISDrc) There's a torrent of the complete series around.

D: You must realize that all this talk of relationships turns me off to a series immediately.

However, I'll look into it when I have the time.

It's really just very, very, very cute. The plotlines are along the lines of "Sakura goes the the aquarium to see penguins, chanting "pengi-san! pengi-san!" cutely! Then a Clow card appears! There is drama! Tomoyo pops out of the woodwork with this episode's adorable and utterly unfanservicy costume for Sakura! There is adorable talking! Sakura thinks with her little fourth-grader brain! She tries and fails and tries and fails and tries and succeeds! She gets a new Clow card! She goes home and makes pancakes! They are good pancakes! She shares them with everyone! It is adorable! Everyone is happy!"

Ah, well, usually I can't stomach really cute things, but I'll give it a go.

I agree with you entirely. Though I am very much behind the Sakura/Syaoran pairing...of course, I've liked it since it aired on TV. The original un-butchered version is, of course, superior.

I agree about the serious lack of Yue. Ah well, awesome show.

I'm okay with Sakura/Syaoran, it's just got an intersection of a bunch of minor things I dislike. (In the manga, it worked better because there's no Meilin. I dislike the shojo thing where the boy comes with a devoted girl and then proceeds to ignore her and end up with the heroine, and that just pushed it over the edge to me.)

Also, the Yue thing is just so...messy the way it is, and I'm sick of the whole "hearts are just unpredictable"/characters made for the purpose ending up in different pairings. Not that it's bad, but I keep seeing it every time, so it starts to annoy me.

...I want to say the solution is Syaoran/Touya, but no, Meilin. You could pair her with Tomoyo, but there's really no reason to (leftover-shipping=bad), so Syaoran/Meilin, and then Touya....Tomoyo/Touya? Unfortunately Tomoyo's portrayed as liking Sakura and no one else, so she's pretty much impossible to pair up. This is hard.

I was so worried when I say the heading that it was going to be something scathing, but yay. It is the fluffiest thing ever and immensely cute. The description of the original is pretty accurate there, though the relationship... shapes get worse as the series goes along. And the Japanese version is in order. And doesn't leave out two out of three episodes.

It was the first show I ever watched the sub of after watching the entire dub avidly as a child. It was stunning: the exact same visuals (of the episodes they showed), but the dialogue and plot were completely unrelated.

You can't say anything scathing about CCS! It's like a law or something.
