>_>; *is VERY much guilty of haphazardly mixing canons*
Also, I am for some reason reminded of the first time I tried to explain the plot of the pokémon anime to my dad. His response?
"THEY'RE TEN? And they go off into the world ALL ON THEIR OWN? Do they drop out of school? Their parents allow this WHY?" I've never been able to come up with a really good answer to this.
At least it's better than the Special manga, where Red doesn't appear to even HAVE a legal guardian, or at least not one that's aware of his existence.
Mixing canons is okay as long as you know what you're mixing, really. (I'd rant about how the standard OT fic opening is actually shown in all of none of canon, but there's lost causes, and there's causes that have been lost long enough their existence is considered a myth.)
The ten year old thing works a lot better in context. "They're ten, but they're running around in a world that's like a giant park while protected by demigods and getting free room and board wherever they go."
...doesn't so much apply to Special, but as you said, no legal guardian for Red or anything even resembling adult caring at any point in those books for anyone. (I mean, just think of poor Green. She gets moved a town or so over when she's a little kid, and no one ever bothers to find her family?) I think Blue is the closest we get to having a caring family, and he gets trapped and mindcontrolled for god knows how long without that family noticing he's gone.
