There was some thing we were supposed to go to, a panel with two soldiers from Iraq. I was intending to go but then forgot, so I only heard about it in class, and then I was glad I hadn't gone from how the teacher summarized it.
I don't want to get into politics, she started off.
Really, I should have learned better by now, but I thought that it was an odd preface because the soldiers were just saying about what they'd experienced, and that wasn't politics.
Turns out what the soldiers were saying was,
We're held back by the rules of engagement. Because we follow the Geneva Convention and they don't. The media isn't reporting all the good news from Iraq. The terrorists are everywhere, but you have to wait for them to shoot you before you can shoot back.
I don't want to get into politics.
And since we don't want to get into politics I didn't say anything. Because what people say is fact, and saying it's not is politics.
Sometimes I think it doesn't matter who wins the next election.
