The main problem with Left Alone is that what's done by the antichrist and company is so WTFy. It doesn't help that the books suck - it waffles back and forth on if he knows about the prophesies, with him ignoring them and setting science up to look like idiots followed by us finding out he had some secret personal bunker set up for when it hits, followed by him getting blindsided by the next event. And half the stuff he's doing is pretty much one step removed from holding up a checklist of Evil Things Satan Wants in front of a camera, then reading them off as his new decrees for the day. I've been kicking around a few dozen ideas, all of which involve ignoring huge chunks of the existing storyline because I couldn't make sense of it. Then I had a brainstorm while trying to make sense of the Hattie/McMountainrange relationship that gives a usable background motivation for all the things that go on. So that's done.
Also been pondering the original version of the bamf!fic. Youtube + videogame playthroughs = OTP.
