Unrelatedly, I'd just like to mention how pleased I am by Homestuck fandom. Go, fangirls! Pair up members of two groups whose only canonical interaction involved one side getting killed off in adorable fluffy pics! Then the ones who've never met in canon! And then clone makeouts! I am also absurdly happy that the badass female character is still being portrayed as badass. Possibly it's because she's taller. If I ever draw anything, I will remember to make sure every major female character towers.

Snowman's horde of shameless fangirls both delights and terrifies me. It's like I've stumbled into a bizarro universe where most girls are into the same tings I am. I don't know if you've been to the forums, but there are at least four female regulars there who like to loudly declare their love for her at every available opportunity. And that's not counting me.

Also: bad ass female character singular? Rose kills giant monsters with knitting needles, her mother is a mad scientist who knows kung fu, and future!PM seems to be capable of switching from "adorable" to "almost as terrifying as Snowman" at the drop of a hat.

Speaking of Mom Lalonde, today I wrote a her/GLaDOS fic instead of studying for O-chem. It seemed to go over pretty well.

When I went to get fanart I was all okay, so I know it'll probably mostly be her being weak and pathetic, but it won't all be, maybe. Oh, anime. You have made my standards so very low.

I was going to pluralize it, but I'm only now working my way through fanart so I couldn't be sure of the second half with being portrayed consistently as badass, and also, the rest have enough range that they can have more normal moments without being OOC, making Snowman an easy litmus.

...wait, there's fic where? Because that's what I looked for first, and only hit fanart.

The vast majority of fan stuff is on-site in the forums. There's a fanfic thread, as well as some fic in the romance thread. Still waaaaaaaay more art than fic, though.

Just started on the threads there (I am not good with forums). By the way, the earliest fanart thread I can find is labeled III. Are there earlier ones or is it some sort of horrible prank for newcomers?

Don't know. It might be, because honestly the MSPA forums have a lot of those.

It's kind of a weird set up for a fandom, because the creator always knows exactly what we're up to. Sometimes he even participates, like when he drew Mom/Bro for the first romance thread. And he makes absolutely no secret of the fact that he takes things from the fandom to use in his work. The idea of the trolls having an insect-like life cycle, for example, came from a fan comic.

I think you'll be pleased with the romance thread. After the update with Rose coming in through Dave's window, someone there said something about it being the "death-knell" for John/Rose, and the only response they got was a bunch of people going, "Um, what are you talking about? Obviously who ends up together in canon has nothing to do with shipping. Everyone knows that." Also one person presented a "counterargument" in the form of a cute freshly-drawn John/Rose picture.

...buh? Shipping be crazy. Good to hear that it's kept distinct from shipping pics, as is right and proper.

Did you ever take a look at Avatar: The Last Airbender fandom? That was a pretty good case study of how shipping can get completely out of control. It seemed like every three episodes someone would announce that some largely innocuous happenstance was the "death-knell" of some ship or other. Only there the phrase was more likely to incite a flame war than polite bafflement.

No, but then I generally don't. (Actually, I've only watched some of the show itself - I've got it downloaded, but not on this computer, so I haven't continued.) But at least it makes a bit more sense there, insomuch as there were occasional episodes that dealt with characters crushing on each other and there was also a lot more enemy-based ships, where it's possible character A can do something that would kill any future relationship with character B, and oh god even as I type that I'm sure that you're actually talking about it in the pokemon sense of "two characters glanced at each other in episode 231! THAT KILLS ALL OTHER SHIPS EVERYBODY OKAY LET'S ALL ACCEPT MY SIDE WON NOW."

Sort of in between the two, really. Generally one half of a pairing would do something kind of fucked up, but not really that much worse than the baseline level of fucked-up-ness for most of the relationships in the show. And you know it would just be the end of the world.

To the extent that I got involved at all, I generally tried to stay out of the way, over in the corner with the crackshippers. Particularly the "hey let's pair Zuko's hot mess of a sister with every other girl on the show!" variety of crackshippers. Fun times.

That was considered crack? I saw like three episodes with her in them, but unless Zuko has another sister I'm pretty sure she was the one who had a plan that involved collecting her childhood girlfriends as Step One.

I mean she could still be bi and all, but.

Oh, you have no idea.

There is a beach episode. Ty Lee, one of the "childhood girlfriends," spends most of it leading around a group of infatuated young men and having them do ridiculous things like arrange themselves to provide her with optimal shade. For her part she shows zero interest in any of them, and when Azula calls she goes running to her like a puppy. Later the guys get pushy and start insisting she pick one of them, and, once again, she goes running to Azula, who makes a nasty comment about them just wanting her for her body. When Ty Lee starts to cry, Azula apologizes (Azula apologizes!) and confesses that she's just feeling jealous (note it is never explicitly stated of which party). Ty Lee helps by "practicing" flirting with her, which Azula then tries in the most forced and awkward manner imaginable on one of the guys from the beach. (He rejects her, so she burns his house down.)

So, yeah. After that, some Azula/Ty Lee fans rightfully started making noise about their pairing having at least as much basis in canon as Zutara.

As for your other question? ZUKO. So very much Zuko. I am near certain that the creators were in on it, too, seeing as how they gave each of the other kids in the Gaang (except for Toph, who got her own moments later on) a full episode to interact with him one-on-one. Throw in two one-shot potential love interests, a revenge-obsessed stalker, and his canon girlfriend, and that's EIGHT pairings with substantial followings.

Also, out of curiosity, who was the fandom bicycle, Zuko or Aang?
