I wrote music criticism professionally for 15 years when I was a journalist and I so often found myself thinking about that Oscar Wilde addage that all bad poetry is sincere. If people ever want to see fan fiction recognized for the literary movement it obviously is, there needs to be avenues like this so that writers can learn their craft. Intentions are not skill. I am wildly encouraging of talented writers, but the urge to create and publish cannot be self-congratulatory or come an expectation of babying.
I applaud the work you do in offering your fair-handed critiques. It makes a genuine difference and creates opportunity for artists to both rise above the limitations of their past and to question their own motives for publishing. Bravo.
