Rewatching Puella Magi. It continues to be awesome, and there's some fun stuff to notice with Homura. Consider the girls gushing over Homura's hair in the first episode. Homura's face is in the medical dictionary next to the definition of depression induced flat affect. But apparently the second thing she did after getting out of the hospital bed was find conditioner for her hair so it'd be ready for when she transfers to Madoka's class.

(As a random fact, I've shown this and the new My Little Pony to various people. Guys all like the latter but all respond to Puella Magi with "this is dumb why is she crying over an egg?" with the exception of my brother.)

May not be able to post Mockingjay stuff for the next few days. I figured out how to do queuing (this post was published automatically!), but I don't have a backlog because my work ethic is lacking. On the other hand, I should be able to get plenty typed, so further interruptions can be avoided. (I may also be able to get that planned reviewing done.)

I should probably try to see if I can get next chapter's done now, but extended typing makes my fingers feel weird. It is likely something in my head, or else something to do with speed.

Went back to my Platinum sort of nuzlock run and managed to find a max IV code to use as well, but now there's something wrong with the cloning code. Got it to work once and not again. Which is quite annoying, because I can finally get online with our current wireless.

I also want to babble on the setup of the Homestuck Shiplympics because it's suddenly become interesting to me, but that should probably be a separate post.

Oh dear, seems like we're going Bad End.

I'd figured she killed him, but I wasn't expecting her to confess when Katniss is willing to believe it was an accident. Poor kid.

I suppose it'd still be possible for Katniss to survive a fight with the Cato and Clove alliance, but she would need to leave the cave (get up a tree when they can't harm her at all, shoot one of them and if she's lucky she'll hit a spot not covered in body armor) and she's clearly not in the right mindset for anything like that. Her only real chance is she's wrong about who the cannons were for.

At least she's able to understand Rue, particularly that she's not the same as Prim and doesn't have to be.

Hey, this is over here now!

This is a better end than I would have expected they could manage. I like their own attempt at a solution and her own thoughts. It's nice to see Katniss have a chance to be noble.

Puella Magi is very awesome. Magical girls + mind fuckery= win. And I only watched the first two episodes of My Little Pony, but I'm liking it a lot so far.

All the online talk I saw was saying the first ones weren't very good and the rest are better, but I loved the first ones and found many of the later episodes more hit and miss.

My boyfriend was pretty interested in the premise of Madoka. I only watched two episodes while I was staying with him, but I think he would have liked it had he come in the beginning.

Good for him! You should see if he can be converted.

I agree about MLP being hit-or-miss. I really like most of the episodes that focus on either Rainbow Dash or Rarity, but then you have things like the episode about the Pinkie Sense...

I imagine the parts about Fluttershy taking care of animals must get some double-facepalm combos from you.

That's kind of ironic, given the target audiences of each and the people whining about how you can't call PMMM feminist because men watch it.

Also, :( about the egg. That is one of my favorite moments in the first half of the anime! Maybe it's an example of how the overuse of clichés and shorthand in fiction lead to people complaining about how Reality Is Unrealistic. I doubt anyone would be confused by a man who had just been in battle panicking over a sudden loud noise, but that's the only conception of combat fatigue and PTSD that a lot of people have.

Personally that sleepover episode made me want to die.

I actually really liked Twilight's excitement about having an Authentic Normal Girl Experience, because boy can I ever relate to that. The in-fighting got old fast, though. I disliked the race episode for the same reason. I don't enjoy seeing the girls at each other's throats. :(

The sleepover itself, cute. But the show's insistence that everyone has to be friends went bad places. Just because they're her friends doesn't mean they have to be friends with each other.

...why will it not let me post this?

I just sort of go with it. Almost all the episodes have horrible nonsense morals to go with them. It's better to just shrug. I actually don't mind Fluttershy because it's a ridiculous demonstration of how cutesy and weird the pony areas are.

Yeah, exactly. I think a lot of it is identification. I really don't think the worst reaction a guy could have is to feel protective and sympathetic toward vulnerable girls. Certainly it can end up condescending, and it goes terrible places if it becomes a matter of only the right sort of girls deserve sympathy, but it's far better than dismissing them. The brony phenomenon seems to not have much to do with the gender of the characters and just the show's writing style. If shows with female characters weren't so rare I bet it'd happen a lot more often.

Reality is Unrealistic probably plays a large part, and identification. A male character probably wouldn't start crying in the same scene because they're taught to never, ever cry in front of people, but the flip side of that is there's also the conception that women cry over stupid things. And if you're not identifying with the characters but judging them, you're more likely to view crying as a ploy for sympathy than a reaction.
