An Unpaid Janitor, Manga
Jun. 26th, 2004 08:56 pmYesterday I went back to school. Actually, I went back to my old school I transferred out of this year. It's a high school, and I've been going there for about four or five years now in the summer. It's almost enough to wish I did something fun, like lit stuff on fire during class, in order at least get something interesting in return for sacrificing half my summer.
My mother teaches the 'enrichment' classes there for younger kids (eighth grade's the limit, but the age range is really more kindergarten to fourth). It's basically camp for wimpier kids or those with parents who want to force them to learn over the summer. Also for the nightmares who were enrolled in camp last year and got kicked out.
First we go in early and spend several hours cleaning. We do this every year, and the room looks worse each time. The room's a sped room, and not only are those overcrowded thanks to overattentive parents diagnosing their kid with everything imaginable, but the few hyperactive/destructive/actually-supposed-to-be-in-sped kids usually do plenty of damage (hey, in a class of nearly forty kids all doing different things, it can be hard to watch everyone). Of course, compared to the cooking room, it looks clean (they have six or so years of dust in there…ugh). So we washed desks, swept the floor, moved everything around, and generally did everything the janitors should have been doing. And the sink was clogged and has apparently been so for a good while.
AND we repaired the table the sink's on that's been falling apart slowly for the last few years, using, among other things, a hot glue gun to create a seal.
The only good thing is that, demonstrating their usual level of competence, my computer account is still working despite the fact I've now been unenrolled twice. Amazing school security, huh? So I'll have internet access there. This does not make up for having to be around small demonic creatures with high-pitched voices, but it helps.
I hate children. I really do. An individual child is fine, but once they get together, it's like a collective mind forms, bent on evil and/or stupidity. And I'm not allowed to cause any noticeable damage on them.
We finally left at around three. Went to the mall because I needed to buy a book for a friend, and I bought two other things for myself. One (actually, two) of them was the lovely Angel Sanctuary. I order you by the power given to me as a livejournal user to go and buy it. But first, a quick compatibility test.
Do any of the following upset or unnerve you?
Incest
Violence
Divorce
Christianity
Christianity being portrayed as cruel
Christianity being portrayed as real (hey, I'm trying to cover all possible objections, okay?)
Crossdressing
Homosexuality
Gender changing
Lesbians
Lesbians talking about marriage
Some of the non-loving Christian parts of the bible being quoted
Evil angels
Lustful angels
Incestuous angels
Angels deciding to rape demons
More incest
Drug use
More violence
Talk of girls being whores
More incest
Resurrection
Angels fighting
Demons being portrayed neutrally
Iconography
Really screwy semi-blasphemous iconography
More gender changing
More disturbing references to Christianity
The concept of fighting god
God not being tri-omni
Sin
More sin
Still more sin
Murder
Still more incest
And more!
If you said 'yes' to one or more of the following, Angel Sanctuary is a perfect manga to buy which will not in any way cause you to spontaneously combust after coming upon one or ten of the above issues within a few pages. Go and buy it. And, um, don't read the summary on the back, it's a misprint and supposed to be for a different manga, okay?

Uhh..?
Date: 2004-06-27 02:18 am (UTC)Does Angel Sanctuary have all of the things mentioned above or none of them? In case it contains all of them, I'm definetly going out to buy it. That angel raping demon thing sounds kind of funny.
