So on the one hand, the update was all very cute and the characters good. On the other hand I don't really like any of what we're learning about.

In the end, I'd really prefer rare thoughtless lines about games for girls that people can ignore or make up other interpretations than something pointing out it's sexism but making it canon that there's sexism there. Stories about sexism are good, but beyond the sexism issue, they're not ones I really want to explore the worlds of. I'd rather have a gender neutral or actual matriarchal society over yet another replay of how the patriarchy is inescapable.

(Also holy fuck tumblr, everyone's talking about Kankri and all anyone says about Porrim is how hot she is.)

As much as I loved the beginning of the update, I really hate the new trolls. Porrim is awesome and enjoyable (and the music for her portion of the game was great), but I really dislike the other two. They just don't measure up to their predecessors. How do you feel about them?

I don't know how to feel about 4nnoy1ng qu1rk g1rl because I could barely make out her dialogue. Windbag McSplainy is deliciously and hilariously hateable. I don't much like the Sufferer thing, so I approve of him being something completely different.

Kankri is hilarious to me because of the overt social justice warrior parody. I'm curious to see the others after seeing the leaked sprites.

Stories about sexism are good, but beyond the sexism issue, they're not ones I really want to explore the worlds of.

This. I wonder constantly why every fantasy world is the same hacked-together ball of tropes and expectations for gender roles. It's fantasy, we can do ANYTHING ELSE.

I figured you would feel that way, and to an extent I am disappointed too, but I am pleased enough with the way it's being handled to just roll with this being what we're going with now. Ambivalence, I guess is the word.

On an unrelated note, you are the most pressing question in Pokémon fandom. Congratulations. (There's also been some really interesting Hunger Games discussion on this part, if you haven't been following it.)

I am a bit confused by how many people found Latula's quirk indecipherable. I hated it back in Act 4, but now I've gotten so used to Terezi that I barely notice it, personally.

It's because Latula uses lowercase instead of uppercase. The 413 replacements are much better suited to uppercase text because they resemble uppercase letters. Also, with lowercase, the 1 is easily confused with l.

And if you can't tell if that last letter is an L or an I, that is exactly my point.

Indeed.

I was actually impressed by how much the original quirks are designed to seem more annoying than they actually are. But by now it seems he's running low on options.

And the worst is when you get a matriarchy and all the power ends up going to the men anyway, because apparently that's just a universal constant and it's impossible women could ever be in charge for real no matter what the universe is.

Well, it's indeed not the worst thing, and the sexism has been piling up. I guess needing to address it becomes inevitable.

::::D Not just the most pressing, but also an unanswerable one so far! Truly, I am confusing.

Yeah, I noticed that thread ballooned. I feel like I need to write up some sort of primer on the difference between liking something because you can see good ideas in it and because those things are objectively there.

Yes. I was surprised how much Latula's quirk annoyed me when I read Terezi's fluently without even noticing. Gamzee and Tavros' quirks annoy me a bit too, but I'm more used to them. Nor did I find the character very interesting.

I like Meenah more as she gets more screentime, and my like for her feels very close to my feelings for Vriska. I like Aranea, but totally differently than Vriska or Mindfang.

I liked Kankri being an obnoxious liberal troll, but admittedly I've been running into a lot of political correctness gone wrong wank recently. I just hope this doesn't mess up how people portrayal the beta-version Sufferer, 'cause I like some of the current fanon I've seen for him. The update made pretty clear the two grew up to be really different and even people who can't Kankri still became fans of the Signless, but people could still ignore that completely.

Poor Porrim. Hopefully tumblr people will give her the serious attention she deserves once we stop being struck speechless by how amazingly hot she is. Damn.
