Generic holiday tidings to you all.

I'd like to take a moment to thank my pagan ancestors. You can call it Christmas and put up all the nativity scenes you want, but the core of the holiday remains blissfully unchanged: evergreen plants, colorful shiny things, and presents.

Read the news paper Regsister if you wish to challenge the source: I've been told the pagens chose their holiday to have that same date as Christ Mass instead of the other way around as is commonly beliefed.

And screw generic greetings, if you're celebrating a certain holy day this time of year then greet me in kind. If not, then don't.
Try to encompass all and you'll only end up encompassing nothing.

No. December 25th was 'Dies Natalis Solis Invicti', the 'Birth of the Unconquered Sun' in the cult of Mithras in the Roman empire. It was so hugely popular that by the time Christianity rolled around, they ignored the fact that Jesus was probably born in the spring and made Dec. 25th Jesus' birthday in order to eclipse Mithraism more completely.

So, it's possible that the 'pagens', whoever they are, may have chosen to have their holiday on Dec. 25th as well, but I believe real Pagans/Wiccans celebrate Yule, or the Winter Solstice, on the 21st.

...thank you, this made my day. I'm sorry, but that is hands-down the stupidest thing I've heard for quite a while. I mean, ignoring all the masses of evidence, let's just think about this. You remember how to do that, right?

Pagan refers to religions that predate Christianity. So what you're talking about would require pagans to convert to Christianity, then go "Hey, I'm going to make up a random pagan holiday even though I'm Christian now. And because the missionary taught us God hates other religions, especially copycat ones, I'll put it on the same day as one of the most important Christian ones. I'm sure they won't mind."

And then all the other pagans would have to go "Yeah, I think that sounds fun, even though our religion is ancient and not the sort of thing you randomly add holidays to." And all the other Christians would have to say "Even though this is total blasphemy, we're going to adopt your new pagan holiday, which we know about despite the fact we're not pagan anymore."

And then when the date changed from January to December, all the pagans must have said "Gee, even though we totally don't believe in this, we'd better change the date of our holiday too."

Is stupidity a natural trait of you guys, or is it learned?

And I'm celebrating the Day of Green Plants, Shiny Baubles and Food, and I'm greeting you as such. If I wanted to say Merry Christmas, I'd say it.
