Makes so much sense, doesn't it?

Heard on the news today that they've figured out a great way of paying for the costs of repairing forests after fires. Pay close attention, because this may well be the most brilliant idea ever devised.
Okay, when there's a big forest fire, not everything gets destroyed. Some of the trees survive. In fact, entire areas may survive if the firefighters were protecting that place.
So, to pay for the cost of replanting the burnt areas...we're going to chop down the trees that weren't burnt. Many of which are hundreds of years old. And then replant it with saplings.
(Those of you who aren't yet picturing a situation similar to pine tree farms, please do)
This is, of course, not because of commercial greed. It's to help the forest. By completely destroying it and replacing it with little saplings. Yay.
Bonus question: Will the logging companies that get the rights to do this be the same ones who donated heavily to the current election campaign?
