I'm really pleased by the lawn this year. The front yard is actually pretty homogeneous, not with grass admittedly, but it's green and near monocultury, which should count for something. The dominant plant is some sort of spire-weed thing that grows straight up and is surprisingly forgiving of being stepped on. It makes it look like a miniature forest. The cats love it too. In the low areas where water collects is lush grass. Unfortunately, my dandelions were only on one side of the yard, which happened to be the same side Dad was working on, so he ripped up a lot of them. But I'm going to be deliberately reseeding areas, so I'll get him back.
Also, under the tree are all sorts of birdseed-related plants, including a number of sunflowers and some stuff that I don't recognize.
The backyard is more diverse, even though we're weeding. There's the purple-flower groundcover thing. It's very low growing. We have two major patches that are spreading out. They're getting pretty big. Then there's this mass of not-strawberry plant. It's sending out runners over the top of the tall grass, so it's held up off the ground. I can't wait to see what happens when the purple-flower and not-strawberry meet up.
Meanwhile, the grass in the back is doing good. We don't seem to have any variety that gets taller than halfway to my knee, so it hasn't needed to be cut (I made a good argument for letting them seed). There are a couple of weird flowering things, one purple-red and two yellow. There are also some asters.
I think our neighbors hate us a great deal, but it's way cooler looking than their lawns.

Date: 2006-07-06 02:18 pm (UTC)And the backyard is great! Most of the bare patches from last year have filled in. And we have black raspberries. Do you have black raspberries? I didn't think so. My lawn pwns yours.

Date: 2006-08-02 05:54 pm (UTC)The back garden's very bad this year, mostly because we haven't started landscaping it yet. All that's there so far is some stumps, a really neglected pond and a pile of rubble.
So, your garden/lawn pwns mine, certainly, but I plan on getting my aunts to come and spruce it up. They'll make it cool-looking and pwnsome. So thar.
Hello, by the way :P
