So last entry I pointed to, with some surprise, a reviewer after me ranting about flames and the difference between flames and constructive criticism. Since it's not only unusual, but the review page hadn't refreshed so mine hadn't even shown up, I was sort of wondering if the author had complained to someone...and today I get a bitchy response. (There's also another whine about flamers on the review page, so I go with my author calling in friends theory.)

Right:
Point one, regarding your complaints about the fact that an injured Pokémon can be healed at a Centre: Have you watched the episode of the anime "Pokémon Emergency"? In which, Pikachu is so badly injured, he is hooked up to a life support machine - and if you'd waited until my next chapter, you'd find out that the same thing happens.
Point two: You say I'm being "blunt", well it's called HIDING
INFORMATION, a skill I learnt in year 6 of my school year. It's used to you know, build suspense... DUR.
Stop judging things on the first chapter, I'm not afraid to argue with an ignorant flamer such as yourself. You claim that people who block you don't wish to improve, stop dictating other people's styles, and just let them get on with their hobby without having their feelings crushed by people like you. Fuck you, and goodnight.

Your lord and master,
Mog Anarchy.

Someone has issues.

Still, more evidence to add to the mountain pile of polite reviews getting worse responses than harsh ones.

For those not interested in link-hopping,my review was:

I'm ambivalent.

You set your scene nicely, take your time rather than rushing and include detail well.

However - "I must admit, he did have a point. I’d missed my chance to leave Celadon with my starter Pokémon five years ago. Every two months, nine ten-year old Trainers would be presented with their starter Pokémon, and would leave Celadon on their Pokémon journeys. At the age of ten, I’d missed my chance."
That...doesn't make sense. There's no reason why an arbitrary system like that would be put in place, and if there was, there are other ways to get a pokemon. She could buy one, ask someone else to catch her one, borrow a pokemon to catch one, or Oak could give her one.

Then there's the trainer, who's so cliche and goes off on rants about pokemon being tools without any provocation. You couldn't be blunter short of writing 'And by the way, he's a jerk and you should hate him'. (And studying pokemon doesn't conflict with them being tools - you can study something to learn how to use it.) A bit more restraint would be nice.

There's little explanation for why the two pokemon are there, or why the umbreon obeys him at the snap of his fingers. I suppose you might get to that, though. There's definitely no explanation for the whole 'you don't want this injured pokemon thing' - it looks like you're just trying to make her look kind and compassionate, but pokemon can be healed for free and espeon are rare and powerful. There's no reason someone wouldn't want it just because it's currently injured.

It was just too tempting. Besides, I always take a chance to practice my insultingly polite writing style.

It actually took more effort than you'd think - FFN uses a blanket ban system, which means blocking reviewing not only blocks PMs, but prevents you from seeing the email. Took me an extra ten seconds to get it.
