There's no sign in the story she was interpreting the yells. She says they're saying 'kill the bringer of misfortune' (and also she comments later about how pokemon can understand humans) and that they killed her mate. No sign of exaggeration. And you don't 'accidentally' shoot something through the head, that's pretty deliberate. Plus all of the babies are apparently dead as well..What you're saying now is even more incoherent, I'm afraid. First you say she was exaggerating, then you say "Admittedly it is kind of funny that they'd go out and kill Absol when they could just as well catch them, now that I think about it. That part was kinda slapped together with the purpose of making her hate humans" so that means they *were* out to kill them and that was the intended way of seeing it.

If the point of the story is what you say it was, it would have been better not to have so much extra. Just a random absol being chased and caught, no backstory about guns and a dead mate and humans saying they were going to kill her. You don't even need to make her hate humans. She's running because they're chasing her, she's caught, she's sent out in a battle and causes a disaster. Simple.
