I'm not really paying attention to it, but I'm trying to keep a good record, so I should mention Chapter Two of Lucki was put up a little while ago.

Anyway, Diamond. Team Galaxy is a stupid name and the stuff about evolving pokemon releasing energy seems like they ripped off a bad fanfic. I'm not sure if the pokemon designs overall are just unfamiliar or bad, but I hope whoever thought up the bidoof thing is shot. Also, wireless connection isn't working here, so I'll have to wait until I get home to try to get that up.

So far, I'm reserving judgment.

Some of the romanizations have me wondering if the translators all got drunk and had to throw things together at the last minute. Pachirisu? They weren't even trying on that one. (One snippet of dialogue had "Osu!" still in it. I mean, I know anything Japanese = AWESOMESAUCE, but really.)

However, I keep seeing (imagining?) the craziest references at times. So far I've seen a reference to the Giant Enemy Crab, I swear I saw a Team Galaxy grunt go "This is madness!" and I'm sure that Starly is a reference to the O RLY birds.

Sooo... the game has me pretty tickled so far, (apart from those horrible romanizations) but I'm only at the third gym city so we'll have to see.

I'd say that the quality of the dialogue has actually gone up slightly; I keep seeing references like that, too, and at times it's actually halfway amusing. Like all the Team Galaxy grunts who go, "I have absolutely no idea WTF I'm fighting for, but I'm going to try to beat you down anyway because I'm just a mindless grunt!" Sort of a little social commentary or something going on in there somewhere. Or maybe I'm reading too much into a children's video game.

Hm...Actually, I think grunts not knowing what's going on was true back in GSC, since I think I remember them making remarks about not knowing things back then. It's definitely more obvious this time around though.

As to it being social commentary, it's either commentary or the translators going hee! Kiddy game, doesn't have to make sense. Look, this guy doesn't even know what the group is doing! Haha, it's funny because it's a kid's video game.

...I'll see.

"We're fightin' for our rats!"

"You mean your rights? What rights?"

"I don't ratly know, but then I suppose I must have some rats I don't know nothing about!"

Sorry, there was supposed to be a fake HTML tag explaining that joke. I don't expect you to get it.

It sounds oddly familiar for some reason...

I don't suppose you've read The Killer Angels?

Yes, actually, although I didn't remember it until googling the novel. So that's what it's from.

(Strictly speaking, I think I just read the beginning. It was for school, I think.)

Yeah, Pachirisu...I know everyone thinks original names = best, but seriously, if its name is Electric Squirrel in Japanese, it's not that hard to rename. Elecirrel. There, Nintendo. Was that so hard?

Eh, I don't much like references because I like self-contained universes.

The new species get more bizarre as they seem to be running out of real species, or something. The penguin wins, though.

The plot doesn't have to be intelligent--it can be silly in its stupid. There are always fun games to play; like "insert your half of the dialogue", which in the case of my female character always ends up as hit on all the other female characters because all twenty bits of them are pretty and make snide remarks at all the male characters because they're stupid and not pretty. Or, have the stupid Team Rocket/Whatever plan narrated by a character from Lord of the Rings and see how few lines you can change from an actual speech in the movie.

But I can't really say, because I haven't actually played Diamond yet because I still don't have a DS.

I do think running out is a issue, but, when I'm sitting there thinking I've read better fakemon, I think Nintendo is the one at fault.

See, I value the plot because it's what I'll be basing fanfic off. If it's dumb, I'm going to be ignoring it in fanfic and frustrated while playing.

I think one of the most interesting things so far is the library, more specifically the childrens' section. Which is a bit sad because I'm at the sixth gym already.
