Apr. 7th, 2008 10:25 amSince Unoriginality has just been linked to SerebiiFail, edited the opening of the newest chapter to make it clear they're the ones who incurred my wrath. Because if past linkings are anything to go by, they're the sort who read it and go, "Oh, that's so true. Gee, I'm glad my story is totally not like that at all because it's so awesome."
And there are few things I hate more than that.

Date: 2008-04-07 03:52 pm (UTC)Good, because they seem to do it more than any other group of pokémon fanfic writers. Only yesterday did I have a discussion with an author on this thread about her prologue. Basically she said that the prologue was the end of the story, but instead of following what had been established in said prologue, the entire journey was going to be different, meaning the prologue wasn't the end, but the beginning.
*pauses* Basically, she managed to confuse everyone, including herself.
And in which way was it linked to Serebii? I must have missed it. I'm definitely curious to see what their reaction is to that particular chapter, since it targets them so clearly.

Date: 2008-04-07 05:43 pm (UTC)It's the 'write segment, then flashback to the very beginning' situation gone even more wrong. She tried to be nifty, but didn't realise it would bring problems with it, and couldn't explain it to herself, ler alone me. At least, I believe that to be the case. She thought that she had a good idea, but it backfired because it's not possible.
Aaah, I believe I posted in that thread as well. Shows you how absentminded I am these days. Hopefully they'll take the bait sooner or later. ;)

Date: 2008-04-08 10:08 pm (UTC)Oh, and it's a dumb idea simply because it's obvious this is a Lucki-style middling sue that didn't just happen to have a string of legitimate luck, but lived in a world that actively bent itself into contortions for the character's benefit. If it's something where early on she got something she shouldn't have (Ch2, gets legendary, proceeds to tear through League), altering that and having it proceed normally would work. But if it's just that, in general, everything was really easy, then that'll just happen all over again because she's in a world where everyone else is a pushover. From the sounds of it she's resetting the entire world, which works as a rewrite but is fucking stupid if your premise is limited to an altered timeline.
And the concept of things being too easy is an overused cliche that was stupid the first time around, all five thousand years back, and at least back then they usually had the decency to make the characters gods capable of anything without effort, as opposed to braindead morons who can't figure out anything interesting to do in a world that, if the game maps are any indication, is a good 90% unexplored and frankly need to be clubbed in the head and put out of their misery if they want to whine about how hard it is to have everything they want.
Horrible abortion of an idea.
