I was subscribed. ^.^ Only FFN doesn't mark quotes any more, unfortunately. (And censors swears) I think I've marked all of them.
Although I respect what you think, on that note I'm going to have to disagree. For one, we don't just flame EVERY fic we don't like. Only the ultrasuper ZOMFG ** ones that if you dipped them in Holy Water they'd burn. Our goal is to make the authors who are trying better, while making the sucky authors go the f*** away.
You know, it's people like you who make it tough going on the rest of us. It might take me a while to reply to everything I want to reply to, but then again I found out about this a bit late. Let's first address the quote up there.
Regardless of what you flame or not, you flame. Flaming is never doing anyone any good. First of all, who are you to judge who is trying and who isn't trying? One of these stories you flame because they are written by someone you think isn't trying might be the work of a young author whose native language isn't English. They may have poured a lot of heart into that story only for you to flame it. Who are you to judge? There is no way for you to see if someone has put effort into something or not. Someone may write something in five minutes, with perfect grammar and spelling, yet not have bothered much at all. There is no way of knowing.
Not to mention that flaming doesn't only upset the authors, but it gives off the idea that flaming is okay. Instead of giving helpful reviews, other reviewers might see what you do and emulate it. However, they might not be aware what restrictions you flame under, or their idea of 'effort' might be totally different. Your reviews might have a very bad influence on them.
If you can't be bothered to be helpful, then simply don't post. Let someone who is willing to make an effort - spot the irony there - review them instead, or let the story fade away. If the author couldn't be bothered, then that is what would happen. Either way, problem solved.
Go ahead and TRY to flame me off of the site. Not gonna happen. And apparantly you didn't read Thieves: Immortal, which more than makes up for it. And as far as I'm concerned, I wasn't even talking about math, drawing, or whatever else you might be going on about. I'm talking about writing. On this site. Learn to read.
And how do you know that the person you just flamed isn't going to post a 'story that more than makes up for it' down the line? This just sounds incredibly hypocritical to me, not to mention quite silly. Also, if you're having an arguement with someone, give them the basic courtesy of not insulting their intelligence. It doesn't really reflect well on what you're saying. This goes for both of you.
I didn't bother to fix it because oneshot battles aren't my calling. Does it matter? Yes. Have I been flamed in the past for often not trying? Of course. Just go look on my old profile's review archives. Do I achnowledge everything I'm told? Definitely. Do I post ships in chat speak just because I'm bored? I don't think so. Am I a good author? Yes. Am I great? No. Do I give a ** if someone who has 15 crappy fics gets flamed a bit? Guess. Try to actually come up with a real argument, cuz right now you're sounding like Bush ;)
So you're saying people who don't bother to edit their work are horrible and deserve to be flamed, but you, somehow, are allowed to 'not bother to fix something' because...? Not to mention that saying you're a good author is not something for you to decide. In fact, it sounds incredibly egotistical. And leave American politics out of this, please.
Well, good stories aren't USUALLY shown here, but the rules aren't that strickt. And no, we're not truely flamers. We're just critisizing, very harshly, and all of us aren't even doing that much in those regards. And Farla, there's actually a pretty long story to where exactly purple_drake's comment came from...
Please don't mistake criticizing for flaming. Or constructive criticizing, even. Flaming has no use other than the flamer getting off on being mean. And even the shortest flame can have a huge effect. One person sees it, gets 'inspired' and does the same. That person inspires two others, who inspire four, who inspire eight, and you have a whole load of people failing to be helpful. You don't know what your unnecessary insults could result in.
Also, we know perfectly well the reason for purple_drake's review. (Here there, this is Silawen from Serebii. Though you might have guessed it already.) I don't think it's quite what you had in mind, though.
The guy critisized every single paragraph Yami wrote, telling her what was wrong with EVERY sentence. It was twice as long as the actual chapter, which wasn't short in it's own right...
I'm a person who critisizes so harshly I can be considered a flamer, yet I truely am not. Do you understand now?
And to Farla, that isn't his fault. I was just making a statement.
Because there was something wrong with every sentence. I do exactly the same thing. It's called being thorough. The review would have been shorter if the story had been of a better quality. You flame, thus you are a flamer. It's an easy thing to grasp. Explaining that you merely criticize doesn't erase the fact that you have admitted to flaming. Calling it something else doesn't change a thing.
Awesome, much appreciated! Also, I have to go to bed, so it would be nice if you could take over with this guy. You're smarter than me anyway, so maybe you can get through to him.
Eh, you've done more than I would. I think I'll stick along long enough to tell them they're all hypocritical, incompetent noobs. (No report option? What the fuck is wrong with them?)

A statement which states that you found the lenght ridiculous. I only wish
more people were as thorough, then we might actually get something donein the
pokémon fandom.
Alright then, I'll hit more fics than Flame Rising did, just in the pokemon
section. I'll accept who I am in a heartbeat.
No need for that. I've already embraced the flames...
If you can't handle being in an arguement, then say so. Don't turn around and
act childish like this. Because that is what it looks like now.
