farlaFinally saw the new Hobbit movie! I went into it believing I wouldn't care what the storyline was so long as the elves were bouncy, and they were bouncy beyond anything I could've hoped for. Everything is a thing to be stepped on, jumped off, or used as a surfboard. And Smaug was almost as great. He dragoned at everything wonderfully.
There were only three trailers before the movie.
One was about Captain America, but did involve him talking to a female character who was badgering him about asking another female character on a date, which is still closer to Bechdel passing than so many things today. But I don't think that's representative of the movie since it'll be about his relationship with Winter Soldier and the government that's gone all authoritarian, and high ranking people are all male too. Still, good for Captain America going against the authoritarians in government.
One was a thing about how America used to do all sorts of stuff, with "America" being guys and some cheering women, but now we don't. In the final scene it looks like the guy's holding the hand of a daughter, so maybe it'll actually involve women to some capacity.
The third one was a sequel ??????????? to the movie about how Sparta was full of great half-naked heterosexual manly men who all got killed. I think it's the queen leading the rest in revenge? It had a female voiceover and a female character interspersed with lots of half-naked manly men killing things. I understand the idea is the good ones are heterosexually half-naked and the other half are evil homosexual half-naked, and the fight is to determine which kind of nakedness will rule the land, and I think that's why the female character is going to lead the heterosexual men to victory, because she wants to be able to have sex with hot guys later. And there's boats.
Also, the very best thing ever continues. I was expecting mere glorious pedestrian grudgewank, I was delighted to find it was insane troll logic grudgewank, and charmed anew by the subplot that is their descriptions of Lucki! I wish only people would learn to link to the fics they're talking about, especially when half the time they're just summarizing my chapters.
