So here's Chapter Fourteen of Unoriginality: OT

Much like the Pokemon/pokemon thing, this isn't a set in stone rule. (And I wouldn't mind seeing, say, cedars show up a bit more.) That said, it's a valid point that if we're talking about the current pattern, it's a bit more restricted than people usually think.

I think I'd be more pissed about the fact that "pine" is just a blanket term for coniferous trees. It's sorta like having Professor Leafy-tree or Professor Vine.

I've always seen Pine as a half step above the infamous Prof. Tree, but sadly, it does have a specific meaning for 'a group of related species' like Oak and Elm, so it's technically legitimate, just stupid as hell. Which is part of why I felt like proposing the new naming rule.
