timewasting
Jan. 27th, 2008 03:16 pmFanlib really is like poking a hornet's nest...only without the bit where you get stung, thankfully.
(It is kind of weird being there after getting used to a certain minimum degree of literacy on livejournal. By which I mean extremely. If you can't spell three letter words, you're not allowed to write sex scenes. I don't care how old you claim you are, stop it. And there's nothing like talking to people older than you who spell about as well as your little brother for vertigo.)
Also: their posting incentives are so very much not thought through. So very much.

Date: 2008-01-27 09:56 pm (UTC)See, they've got this reward program up for posting material. So far so good. And they want to prevent people from just posting nine billion single-sentence entries. Again, so far so good. To do this, they set the minimum submission level for the rewards at 500 words. Also, individual chapters don't count, so you have to submit each chapter separately.
In other words, you should break every submission into 500 word chunks before posting, because your five hundred word submission and your fifty thousand word submission both count exactly as much.
I'm not usually one to bitch about something being exploitable, but in this case, the fix is just so obvious. All they'd have to do is base it on total word count, which is actually easier to do than their system right now. (I'm suspicious this might be something they're aware of, but they only care about making it look like they have more content. Apparently, they also prefer people upload chapters as separate entries.)
If I cared about fanlib, there would be great rantiness, actually, since it means I have to choose between my story being readable and my story counting. Luckily I don't much care about how my story is presented over there, and the 500 chunk format will just serve to further enable my lolcat habit. I've also got some cool goat pictures. Is the world ready for lolgoats?
