Hey, so there's our inevitable nadir where we progress from PS/SS to switched PS/SS to switched and genderswitched PS/SS ending in girlSS being written like an angry kitten flailing cutely at suave PS.

Also apparently Slick/PM has become popular because PM's totally fine with Slick as long as he's not the guy who actually murdered everyone, just the one who would have if he'd gotten the chance. Expect to hear more detailed rage when, ten years from now, I actually reach that point in the archive.

Yeah I saw that Slick/PM fic. The author has been going through all of my PM stories and leaving kudos on them throughout the last few days, and also left a comment on Doll Parts saying she really liked that whole AU.

I don't understand anything.

Oh, that makes perfect sense, because Bec Jack is a totally different person. PM hates Bec Jack and will love Slick because she realizes it's totally unfair to hate him when he's just someone who happens to look like Bec Jack. She also thinks regular Jack is kawaii and then BQ murders her because jealousy.

Wait the one I was talking about didn't have the BQ-jealousy-murdering thing. What were you talking about? D:

PM delivers a bunch of packages and Jack falls in love with her and then BQ murders her while she sits helpless and trusting he'll save her and that makes Jack kill BQ effortlessly because he can totally do that and then "She was his girl. He’s going to destroy the fucking universe. He’s Jack fucking Noir, and that’s what Jack Noir does when the universe kills his girl." because I guess it's always PM's fault Prospit gets destroyed. It's the author's fourth Jack/PM kawaii waifu fic, preceded by a Jack/BQ fic which is bothersome but less obviously so.

I don't suppose you would consider jumping ahead and reviewing one of these so maybe she'll reconsider the path she is going down and also I won't leave utterly incoherent ragey comments myself in a fit of weakness?

But leaving ragey comments is important!

Then again, it is tempting me... And something to be said in favor of stepping in. I mean, she doesn't seem like a bad writer in other senses.

But it wouldn't even be a smart ragey comment. It would just be me screaming about flames on the side of my face and such. Every time I try to consider what I am reading enough to come up with something actually critical to say, my brain fills up with pain and shuts down.

It's not that bad! The opening has sections of PM just trying to do her job as professional and Jack being an asshole. You just have to squint past the "aw isn't he cute for throwing knives at her". Even the bit where he gets drunk with her is decent enough if you assume PM is just curious what stupid shit he'll say when he's smashed. And then you stop reading.

Actually it's kind of weird how relatively well characterized Jack is. Usually he's made more tolerable. I can even sort of see him killing everyone over this, if only because killing everything in righteous outrage is his standard reaction.

I tried and physically could not.

This fic is some kind of weird Ember-repulsion technology.

“So. Lady. What’s your angle, anyway?”

She gives him a frosty glare. “I’m the Parcel Mistress. I deliver the mail.”

See? IC as long as you don't think about where it's going. Which is to her bedroom. And then into the fridge.

Maybe it's warded against you, knowing what would happen if you were capable of commenting.

Apparently the trick was to turn off the computer and lie in bed until l'esprit de l'escalier kicked in. Because this is the internet, and you can be all the way to the ground floor and go charging back up three flights and no one will ever know you were gone.

I meant the story!

it took me a moment to realise when the story began, because all of the pargraphs are indented apart from the first,.

Tumblr formatting is the specialest snowflake. The whole thing should be burned and the ashes interred in silver and buried at a crossroads to keep them from rising again.

...Carapace fandom, why. I continue to fail to understand why the popular ships in the intermission/carapace/PS corners of the fandom are so consistently terrible in conception and execution.

I feel like there's some master reasoning just outside my reach. There's an underlying pattern shared by so many of these fics, but the exact motivation remains elusive.

I hypothesize it's the same kind of thing as the person on the anon meme saying they liked to write Jack as the clever underdog getting revenge on his incompetent boss because clever underdog vs stupid incompetent boss was the dynamic they liked generally, particularly because people who like the popular OOC ship sometimes write that as well.
